Almost a year ago to the day, Mike “Joker” Guymon suffered a submission loss to DaMarques Johnson at UFC Fight Night 23 and announced his retirement from the sport.

Guymon, now 37, said well-documented mental problems manifested themselves into physical issues.

But now, in better mental health and with his competitive fire stoked, he’s returning to MMA in both a new weight class and a new promotion.

RIO DE JANEIRO – Anthony Johnson today grossly missed the middleweight mark required for his co-main event bout with Vitor Belfort at UFC 142.

Prior to the start of weigh-ins, UFC president Dana White said Johnson would “badly” miss weight.

Moments later, when he officially weighed 197 pounds, officials announced Johnson has been fined 20 percent of his “show” money (which goes to Belfort), and after rehydrating, he can weigh no more than 205 pounds on fight day.

LAS VEGAS – MMAjunkie.com was on scene and reporting live from today’s official “Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Jardine” fighter weigh-ins.

Today’s festivities took place at HRH Lounge at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

Strikeforce middleweight champ Luke Rockhold weighed 185 pounds, and
despite some concerns about his opponent’s to make weight, challenger
and fellow headliner Keith Jardine had no problems on the scale.

The headliners and title-fight participants competing at Saturday’s “DREAM: New Year! 2011″ event successfully have made weight for the show.

Weigh-ins for the event, officially dubbed “Genki Desu Ka!!,” took place today in Tokyo.

Saturday’s event, which airs live on HDNet in the early-morning hours (1 a.m. ET/10 p.m. PT), takes place at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.

Today’s festivities took place at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena. The same venue hosts Friday’s pay-per-view event.

Heavyweight headliners Brock Lesnar (266 pounds) and Overeem (263) had
an intense but cordial staredown. Lesnar, though, quickly left the stage
after weighing in and skipped the traditional post-weigh-in interview.
