ROSEMEAD, Calif. – When he walked into the UFC’s Rosemead, Calif. gym some 13 months ago, Cain Velasquez was the best challenger the promotion had to offer heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar.
Now Velasquez is the champ, and Junior Dos Santos sits on the horizon waiting to dethrone him.
Oddsmakers still see Velasquez as a slight favorite leading into his headliner with Dos Santos, which takes place Saturday at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., as the main event of UFC on FOX.

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The Cinnabar Hills Golf Club is a place a champion such as Cain Velasquez can afford to be off his game – a luxury he won’t have come Nov. 12, when the UFC debuts on network TV on FOX.
Before Velasquez meets Junior Dos Santos for the UFC heavyweight crown, he arrives on the links for a recent charity golf tournament in between morning and nighttime training sessions.
Velasquez was one of 15 fighters donating time and auction items to Turning Wheels for Kids, a local nonprofit that raises money to build new bikes for children.

Sunday’s well-received “UFC Primetime: Velasquez vs. Dos Santos” pre-event special earned a 1.3 household rating and averaged two million viewers.
MMAjunkie.com today confirmed the Oct. 30 program’s ratings information with an industry source.
The one-hour special, which was the first significant UFC programming on the FOX network, scored a 0.98 rating among men 18-49 and a 0.99 among men 18-34.
