SAN JOSE, Calif. – Urijah Faber is one big step closer to reclaiming a big-show championship.

The bantamweight fighter blasted and then choked out fellow ex-WEC champion Brian Bowles and immediately called out the reigning titleholder.

The fight aired on UFC 139′s pay-per-view main card from HP Pavilion in
San Jose, Calif., following prelims on Facebook and Spike TV.

SAN JOSE, Calif. – Urijah Faber and Dominick Cruz will settle their score in the very near future.

UFC president Dana White on Saturday night confirmed that Faber’s UFC
139 win over Brian Bowles was indeed enough to earn “The California Kid”
a quick rematch with UFC bantamweight champion Cruz.

Cruz, of course, defeated Faber in the main event of July’s UFC 132
event. However, Faber remains the only man to have ever beaten Cruz
after downing the then-featherweight in a March 2007 contest under the
WEC banner.

SAN JOSE, Calif. – Urijah Faber believes MMA fans and media make too much of too little.

You don’t say?

Questions persist about why good opportunities always seem to follow him. The media is quick to say it’s because Faber is “marketable,” meaning he’s more popular and puts more butts in seats than other fighters. Hence, he gets more of what he wants.

SAN JOSE, Calif. – Former WEC champ Brian Bowles sounds like he’s headed to a high-school P.E. class rather than a professional, no-quarter-given cage fight.

“Some people are going to be popular, and some people aren’t,” Bowles said today in advance of his meeting with Urijah Faber at Saturday’s UFC 139 event, which takes place at HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif.

In four years under the big lights, Bowles has struggled to find an audience. Now, it sounds a little like he’s giving up looking.

Former WEC bantamweight champ Brian Bowles did not
get the UFC title shot he had hoped for, but he did get a fight that
will certainly leave him a No. 1 contender with a win.

UFC officials announced late Thursday night that Bowles will next face
former WEC featherweight champ Urijah Faber at UFC
139.

Although not officially announced, UFC 139 is expected to take place
Nov. 19 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif. The event is expected to
feature a heavyweight title fight between champ Cain Velasquez and top
contender Junior Dos Santos.

Urijah Faber wants a rematch. Brian Bowles wants a rematch. But before either fighter gets an opportunity to step back in the Octagon with UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz again, they will have to fight it out amongst themselves. Read More >>

Urijah Faber (25-5 MMA, 1-1 UFC) thought he did enough to take Dominick Cruz’s bantamweight belt.

Urijah Faber thought he did enough to take Dominick Cruz’s bantamweight belt.

But when the judges said differently at this past Saturday’s UFC 132 event, he
could only point to one thing that might have led them in opposite
direction he wanted: quantity over quality.

“I’ve got to watch the fight, first off, because you get really
instinctual in there,” Faber said following the pay-per-view event
headliner, which took place at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. “But
after the fight, the doctor asked me how I feel, and I said, ‘I feel
great.’”
