Friday’s XFC 14 fight card finalized, HDNet lineup undergoes two changes

With Friday’s XFC 14 event quickly approaching, the promotion has announced a few late changes to the lineup.

Welterweight Nicolae Cury replaces Charles Blanchard and now faces Elijah Harshbarger, and featherweight John Mahlow steps in for Lawson McClure to face Bruce Connors.

Both fights air Friday on HDNet as part of the seven-bout main card of “XFC 14: Resurrection.”

Ex-UFC champ Brock Lesnar undergoes surgery, expected to return in 2012

Former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar underwent surgery on Thursday to address a second bout with diverticulitis, and if all goes well, he could fight in 2012.

UFC president Dana White today said that Lesnar had 12 inches of his colon removed in the procedure and is expected to spend the rest of 2011 in recovery.

However, White hopes the former heavyweight champ will return next year.

UFC heavyweight Shane Carwin undergoes back surgery today

The back injury that forced former UFC interim champion Shane Carwin out of UFC 125 now has put him in the operating room.

Carwin, who was slated to fight fellow heavyweight Roy Nelson at the Jan. 1 show, recently pulled out of the fight because of lingering back problems.

Rather than risk the injury worsening and having an unknown recovery and return time, he opted for surgery, which began this morning.
