Zuffa is making it a bit more difficult to become a UFC or Strikeforce fighter.
Officials today announced that all potential UFC and Strikeforce fighters, including those who compete on “The Ultimate Fighter” reality series, must first pass a mandatory pre-contract screening for performance-enhancing drugs.
The policy has been put into immediate effect.

Firas Zahabi said his toughest job coaching Georges St-Pierre over the years has been getting the fighter to slow down.
Now, St-Pierre has no choice.
“We’re disappointed, but it could have been worse,” Zahabi today told MMAjunkie.com following news that St-Pierre tore his ACL and can’t fight Nick Diaz at UFC 143. “A lot of fighters have come back from that injury, so I expect Georges to make a full recovery and come back better than ever.”

The former UFC middleweight champion and current light-heavyweight veteran suffered a shoulder injury 10 days ago and will undergo “minor” surgery on Tuesday.
The fighter’s reps today confirmed the injury, which required a two- to three-month recovery, with MMAjunkie.com.

MMA veteran Jason Reinhardt plans to undergo corrective eye surgery as soon as possible to get his career back on track.
The fighter meets Tuesday with a doctor and likely will undergo a photorefractive keratectomy, or PRK – a procedure identical to the popular LASIK surgery undergone by millions of people with bad eyesight.
“I’m getting this because I need to get it done and I can continue on fighting,” Reinhardt told MMAjunkie.com.

Although UFC president Dana White said a recent eye injury won’t keep Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic out of Saturday’s UFC 119 event, the headliner faces one final hurdle before he’s cleared to compete in the pay-per-view event.
Andy Means, the director of the Indiana Gaming Commission’s athletic division, today told MMAjunkie.com Filipovic will have a pre-fight medical exam prior to Friday’s weigh-ins.
