A sparring accident earlier today in Montreal is responsible for a knee injury to UFC welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre that has scratched next week’s intended UFC 137 event.
St-Pierre sprawled on a sparring partner’s takedown attempt, trainer Firas Zahabi today told MMAjunkie.com. When the champ circled away, the injury became apparent.
“After he cooled down, I knew he couldn’t fight anymore,” Zahabi said.

Cesar Gracie has known Nick Diaz for 12 years and has stuck by him in good times and in bad.
But when it comes to the UFC’s decision to boot him from a fight with welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre at UFC 137, right is right, and wrong is wrong.
“I don’t blame Dana White on this at all,” Gracie today told MMAjunkie.com. “This is a professional company, and Nick is a 28-year-old man.”

Following the death of noted MMA trainer Shawn Tompkins, a special
guestbook has been established for those wishing to express their
sympathies to Tompkins’ surviving family.
Additionally, Tompkins’ management team at AMR Group has established The
Shawn Tompkins Memorial Fund, which is currently accepting contributions to assist with funeral services.
As MMAjunkie.com previously reported, Tompkins, just
37 years old at the time of his passing, died in his sleep on Aug. 14.

A fighter close to Shawn Tompkins says the renowned trainer passed away this morning.
Veteran lightweight John Gunderson today told MMAjunkie.com that Tompkins “didn’t wake up,” but he was still unclear on the details surrounding his passing.
Longtime friend and confidant Chris Horodecki said the trainer was in Canada and had spoken to him yesterday but was unaware of the bad news when contacted today.
