MMA pioneer Ken Shamrock and current International Boxing Association heavyweight champion James Toney have reportedly agreed to meet in a mixed martial arts contest this fall.
According to the professional boxer’s camp, both the 47-year-old Shamrock and the 42-year-old Toney have both signed on for the contest, though a specific date and location have yet to be announced.
El Paso, Texas, appears to be the leading candidate to host the matchup, which was first reported by BJPenn.com.

For a moment, it seemed like a horrific case of déjà vu.
With a wry smile on his face, UFC president Dana White called out the
names of James Toney and welcomed him to the mat for his chance at a
spot on “The Ultimate Fighter 13.”
That turned out to be a mere Freudian slip, as welterweight Jamie “The
Ghost” Toney stepped forward to claim the slot. So while the brash pro
boxer and one-time UFC vet “Lights Out” Toney didn’t participate in the
tryouts, a host of other notables did, including Andre Galvao and
Karl Amoussou.

James Toney is set to defend his IBA heavyweight title on Nov. 5 in New Orleans, but he’s not done with MMA.
Toney made that decision in the locker room of Boston’s TD Garden
moments after UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture tapped him out with an
arm-triangle choke three minutes into his first real taste of the sport
at UFC 118.
“They might have won the battle, but the war ain’t over yet,” recalled
John “Pops” Arthur, Toney’s trainer of 12 years, of the boxing
champion’s words after the fight.
