RIO DE JANEIRO – The UFC’s third network-televised event likely will take place on May 5.

On Friday UFC president Dana White told MMAjunkie.com that’s the date officials have targeted for UFC on FOX 3. f4wonline.com first reported the date.

However, a host city, venue and potential fights haven’t been determined for the card, which is the second of four that FOX has planned for 2012.

Former champion Eddie Alvarez won’t be fighting for a chance to reclaim his Bellator lightweight title anytime soon.

Bellator chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney today told MMAjunkie.com Radio that Alvarez won’t take the final slot in the organization’s season-six lightweight tournament.

Instead, he’s working to book Alvarez for a rematch with DREAM champion Shinya Aoki.

A pivotal lightweight match is likely headed to a yet-unannounced Strikeforce event planned for March.

Sources close to the event today told MMAjunkie.com that K.J. Noons and Josh Thomson have verbally agreed to meet.

As MMAjunkie.com first reported, “Strikeforce Grand Prix Final: Barnett vs. Cormier” takes place March 3 at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. The event airs live on Showtime with prelims on Showtime Extreme.

A welterweight bout between Charlie Brenneman and Daniel Roberts has been added to the UFC’s first event broadcast on FOX affiliate FX.

Sources close to the event today confirmed the matchup to MMAjunkie.com. Roberts also confirmed the bout on his official Twitter account.  

UFC on FX 1 takes place Jan. 20 at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn. The event’s main card airs live on FX while preliminary fights air on FUEL TV.

Former Strikeforce light-heavyweight champion Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal is back on a regular schedule.

After an on-again, off-again stretch of activity courtesy of a knee injury, Lawal is expected to make his second appearance since returning from his layoff when he fights at “Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Jardine.”

Sources close to the event today confirmed the news to MMAjunkie.com and stated Lawal has yet to receive an opponent.

Charles Oliveira and newcomer Eric Wisely have agreed to meet next in their new weight classes next month at UFC on FOX 2, event sources confirmed with MMAjunkie.com.

The event takes place Jan. 28 at United Center in Chicago, and at least three fights are expected to air as part of the night’s FOX-televised main card.
