Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal says he blew his ACL in the first round of an unsuccessful title defense against Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante this past Saturday at “Strikeforce: Houston.”
The former light-heavyweight champion will undergo surgery on Wednesday to correct the damage, which could keep him sidelined for up to nine months.
Regardless, Lawal is undeterred by his recent setback and said he’ll be
back stronger and smarter. He’ll fight at light heavyweight or
heavyweight – it doesn’t matter as long as he gets in the cage.

Brazilian heavyweight Fabricio Werdum, who in June
handed Fedor Emelianenko his first legitimate career loss, is on the
shelf until the first quarter of 2011.
Werdum’s management today announced that “Vai Cavalo” is scheduled for
elbow surgery on Aug. 18, and he’ll need six weeks of physical therapy
before he can return to training.

UFC middleweight Nick Catone is nursing multiple injures and is unsure of when he’ll be back in the cage.
As MMAjunkie.com reported Monday, the fighter was
forced to withdraw from a scheduled fight with Tomasz Drawl at UFC Fight Night 22 on Sept. 15 and was replaced by Dave
Branch.
Catone will on Thursday undergo surgery for a long-running shoulder
injury which derailed his preparation for Drwal. Additionally, he will
get an epidural shot next week for his back, which he first injured in
April.

UFC heavyweight Ben Rothwell sat at UFC 115′s post-fight podium and made no excuses.
He had won a unanimous decision over Gilbert Yvel on the June 12 event’s
pay-per-view card but said it was “not a victory” for the fight’s lack
of finish. He chose not to disclose that he had torn his ACL on the
first takedown of the three-round contest.
Rothwell on Tuesday underwent surgery to repair both his ACL and a torn
meniscus and hopes to be back in action by February or March of 2011.
