SAN JOSE, Calif. – While his slugfests have won him wide appeal and a loyal fan following, Stephan Bonnar’s ground game carried him to his latest victory.
The veteran light heavyweight used solid clinch work and a smothering and active ground game to earn a unanimous-decision victory over Kyle Kingsbury.
The fight kicked off UFC 139′s pay-per-view main card following prelims on Facebook and Spike TV.

“If I only had fighting, and my body never got hurt, then every three or
four months I would fight,” Bonnar told MMAjunkie.com Radio.
But Bonnar seems to get hurt a lot, and if there’s one thing he’s trying to learn, it’s when to stop and when to go.

After the light heavyweight and welterweight clashed over Bonnar’s “Trash Talkin Kids” business venture, rumors of a potential middleweight fight between the two UFC vets gained steam.
Today, though, officials announced that Bonnar instead will fight fellow light heavyweight Kyle Kingsbury at the November show.

An injury has forced Stephan Bonnar to the sidelines, and UFC newcomer Ronny Markes has stepped in as a replacement.
He has agreed to fight fellow light heavyweight Karlos Vemola at August’s UFC on Versus 5 event.
UFC on Versus 5 takes place Aug. 14 at Bradley Center in Milwaukee, and the night’s main card airs on Versus. Bonnar vs. Vemola had been slated for the broadcast but could be demoted to the preliminary card.
