Thanks to Shinya Aoki, Shane Nelson won’t be fighting at DREAM.17.
However, his willingness to fight one of the sport’s elite lightweights on less than two-weeks’ notice has not gone unrewarded.
MMAjunkie.com has confirmed with multiple sources
close to the Japanese-based promotion that while Nelson’s contract was
voided when Aoki declined to face him at the event, “The Ultimate
Fighter 8″ cast member was awarded a two-fight deal with the promotion.

Multiple sources close to negotiations today told MMAjunkie.com that Strikeforce has earmarked July 30 for a major
Showtime-televised event, putting on hold plans for a pay-per-view
event.
However, a heavyweight superfight between Fedor Emelianenko and current
Strikeforce light-heavyweight champion Dan Henderson, which has been
rumored as the headliner to a potential pay-per-view card, is still in
advanced negotiations and could headline the late summer event.
A location for the Showtime-broadcast event has yet to be confirmed, though the
Sears Centre in Chicago has surfaced as one possible locale.

They’re “getting ahead of themselves,” one source said.

The UFC apparently wasn’t the only suitor of Strikeforce.
ProElite Inc., the once-mighty fight-promotion company purchased for pennies on the dollar in February 2010 by Stratus Media Group Inc., had been in active negotiations with the recently acquired Strikeforce and had met face to face with CEO Scott Coker, sources close to the negotiations today told MMAjunkie.com.
“There were offers made both ways,” said one source.
