Perennial welterweight contender Jon Fitch can now resume his career.
The American Kickboxing Academy product today Tweeted that his doctor
has cleared him to begin training once again following a serious
shoulder injury that scratched a rematch with B.J. Penn.
“I’m back!” Fitch wrote today. “Dr. Kavitne gave me the OK to fight.”

A fighter close to Shawn Tompkins says the renowned trainer passed away this morning.
Veteran lightweight John Gunderson today told MMAjunkie.com that Tompkins “didn’t wake up,” but he was still unclear on the details surrounding his passing.
Longtime friend and confidant Chris Horodecki said the trainer was in Canada and had spoken to him yesterday but was unaware of the bad news when contacted today.

been set for the semifinals of the eight-man tournament.
Multiple sources close to the promotion on Thursday told MMAjunkie.com that an event set for Sept. 10 will host the third
leg of the grand prix.
A host city has yet to be confirmed at the time of this writing.

A fight between onetime middleweight challenger Chael Sonnen and former light-heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida is not happening.
Sources close to the promotion today told MMAjunkie.com that the fight was briefly entertained but did not become a reality after being heavily rumored for the fall, possibly at UFC 136.
Both fighters currently are awaiting their next bookings, the sources said.
