CHICAGO – For a man who’s famously (or perhaps, infamously) walked the walk after talking the talk, Chael Sonnen nearly was tripped up by Michael Bisping.

In the co-headliner of Saturday’s UFC on FOX 2 event, Sonnen edged the fellow middleweight contender to secure an April title fight and rematch with elusive foe Anderson Silva.

After the fight, Sonnen was all compliments when it came to Bisping. Silva, on the other hand, didn’t get off so easy.

CHICAGO – With a rematch with UFC middleweight Anderson Silva hanging in the balance, Chael Sonnen did what he had to do.

And not much more.

Michael Bisping put in a valiant effort in the pair’s UFC on FOX 2
co-main event, flashing improved wrestling defense and gritty clinchwork
in the 15-minute affair, but Sonnen ultimately took over in crunch time
and walked away with the unanimous-decision win at Chicago’s United Center.

CHICAGO – Regardless of what Chael Sonnen says, should he defeat Michael Bisping at Saturday’s UFC on FOX 2 event, Anderson Silva is next.

UFC president Dana White clarified the organization’s plans at today’s UFC on FOX 2 pre-event presser in Chicago.

“Chael is nuts,” White told MMAjunkie.com. “He says
all kinds of crazy things. … He will fight Anderson Silva if he wins.”

In putting together a last-minute co-main event fight between Chael
Sonnen and Michael Bisping,
UFC president Dana White said the winner gets a crack at middleweight
champion Anderson Silva.

That may be true, according to Sonnen. But the title shot is never going to happen.

“I can guarantee you – Anderson Silva and I will never cross paths again,” Sonnen said today.

If you go toe-to-toe with Anderson Silva for more than 25 minutes on the
first night of your professional career, anything that follows will
likely seem like an appealing and conquerable task.

Fabricio Camoes lasted 25
minutes and 14 seconds against the current UFC middleweight champion. He was just 18 years
old at the time the pair fought in Brazil.

So whether Camoes’ next opponent was destined to be Reza Madadi or Tommy Hayden, his train of thought is always going to be, “Okay, that’s fine. At
least it’s not Anderson.”

Manager Wallid Ismail would like his client Erick Silva’s loss changed to a win, or at the very least, a no-contest.

As early as next week, he could get an answer. Ismail today told MMAjunkie.com that UFC Vice President of Regulatory Affairs Marc
Ratner has assured him a review of the Silva vs. Carlo Prater, which
took place this past Saturday at UFC 142.

“Erick didn’t lose the fight,” Ismail said. “No way he lost the fight.”

Mark Munoz’s shot at UFC gold will have to wait.
