LAS VEGAS – With four-straight wins in the UFC’s featherweight division,
Dustin Poirier is quickly moving up the short list
of potential challengers to 145-pound champion Jose Aldo.

But after notching his fifth-straight win under the Zuffa banner at this
past weekend’s UFC 143 event, Poirier expressed a patient resolve.

Improving and maturing is his top priority for now – not a quick shot at the belt.

LAS VEGAS – The Ultimate Fighting Championship’s own media notes on
Brazilian bantamweight Renan Barao sum it up nicely:
“Has best record, on paper, in all of MMA.”

On Saturday night, Barao earned his 28th-straight win by downing onetime
title-challenger Scott Jorgensen via unanimous decision.

The 24-year-old is now 5-0 under the Zuffa banner, and while UFC

If he gets the title shot, great. If not? You won’t hear Poirier complaining.

Renan Barao’s impressive submission win over Brad Pickett at UFC 138 makes him the favorite leading into a bout this Saturday with Scott Jorgensen.

Coupled with the stellar record he holds in professional competition, the Brazilian is the man to beat in the eyes of most.

But Jorgensen is a gambler in the cage, and the only sure bet he makes is that nothing is ever certain when it comes to fighting.

UFC welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre admits UFC 143 is going to be weird. After all, he’ll be rooting for enemy Nick Diaz.

“I want this fight with Diaz so badly – as badly as I wanted the title shot when I got down on my knees,” St-Pierre today told the UFC.

That was seven years ago at UFC 56, when his career looked a whole lot different than it does today. Of all the punches he’s slipped on his current path, this one has hit hardest.
