Bellator heavyweight Ron Sparks felt a strange
sensation leading into his Bellator
52 fight with Mark Holata.
His usual pre-fight nerves were replaced by complete calm – almost
happiness.
“When I walked into that cage, I felt great,” the affable heavyweight
today told MMAjunkie.com about his Saturday win at L’Auberge du Lac Casino and Resort in
Lake Charles, La. Sparks knocked Holata out in 84 seconds. It was his seventh first-round
stoppage in an eight-fight pro career. What’s his secret?
“Man, I keep my chin down and keep my hands moving,” Sparks said with a chuckle.

Daniel Roberts has been itching to return to the
octagon since suffering his second professional loss this past April.
Prior to his fight against Claude Patrick at UFC 129, the Cesar
Gracie-trained fighter had defeated three consecutive opponents and was
riding a wave of momentum.
But an illness Roberts chose to mask heading into the contest left him
weakened, and Patrick was able to grind out a decision victory. UFC on
Versus 4, which takes place this Sunday at CONSOL Energy Center in
Pittsburgh, provides a now-healthy Roberts with his opportunity to
return to the win column.

Eight heavyweights. One tournament. Three steps to glory.
Not since the 2006 PRIDE open-weight grand prix have so many top-level
heavyweights been in one place. The Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix, a
three-stage, single-elimination tournament that kicks off Saturday at
the IZOD Center in East Rutherford, N.J., could arguably crown the
baddest man in the planet.
Two quarterfinal matchups feature a David vs. Goliath matchup (at least
on paper) when Fedor Emelianenko meets Antonio Silva, and Andrei Arlovski looks for
redemption against Sergei Kharitonov.

The burgeoning Shine Fights promotion has lost two of its top officials.
COO Jason Chambers and matchmaker Santino DeFranco have resigned from the organization. MMA agent Ken Pavia, pointing to a text from Chambers, today confirmed the news on MMAjunkie.com Radio.
To date, the organization has hosted three shows, including one in 2010.
