Bellator Fighting Championships officials have signed another Wand Fight Team instructor to the company’s roster.
Officials today announced the signing of welterweight and World Victory Road/Sengoku veteran Michael Costa.
The Brazilian jiu-jitsu and Muay Thai black belt was an original member of the famed Chute Boxe Academy.

Ryo Chonan almost didn’t fight at “Sengoku: Soul of Fight,” World Victory Road’s year-end super event.
Chonan initially was slated to fight Dan Hornbuckle, who was forced off
the card with an illness. Then came replacement Taisuke Okuno, who
missed weight and was issued two red cards, which forced him to
surrender 20 percent of his purse.

That was the pre-fight prediction from broadcaster Frank Trigg at
December’s “Sengoku: Soul of Fight” bout between middleweights Mamed
Khalidov and Yuki Sasaki.
Trigg’s prediction, of course, came true thanks to a fight-altering blow midway through the round.

World Victory Road, home to the Sengoku Raiden Championship event series that airs on HDNet in the U.S., has lost its biggest sponsor, Don Quijote.
Officials today announced the news and hinted that – with the organization’s dependence on sponsors – Sengoku’s promotional days may be over.

World Victory Road’s middleweight champion Jorge Santiago could easily have a pair of “Fight of the Year” awards under his
belt, but his two legendary clashes with Kazuo Misaki under the Sengoku
Raiden Championships banner went largely unnoticed by U.S. fans.
If Santiago has his way, that will never be the case again.
The UFC and Strikeforce veteran recently negotiated his release from
Sengoku and hopes to land a role with a U.S.-based organization in the
coming months.
