Nearly doubling its viewership from a week prior, this past weekend’s Bellator 44 event set a season ratings record with an average audience of 325,000 viewers on MTV2.

MMAjunkie.com today confirmed the figures with an industry source.

The May 14 broadcast set an MTV2 record for its timeslot among men 18-49. It also scored the second-largest audience in MTV2 history while ranking only behind a 2006 airing of the film “8 Mile” in the demo.

While UFC president Dana White has insisted since his company acquired
Strikeforce that everything is “business as usual,” fans seem to want
anything but status quo.

With the world’s top two MMA promotions operating under one umbrella,
the potential for once-impossible superfights is nearly upon us.

Sure, there are television contracts and promotional arrangements to be
addressed, but White insists anything is possible. With that in mind, we

For the first time in his career, Bellator season-four lightweight
tourney finalist Michael Chandler couldn’t seal the
deal.

Despite outwrestling semifinal opponent Lloyd Woodard at this past
Saturday’s Bellator 40 event, Chandler went the distance with the
scrappy “Cupcake” en route to booking a future bout with Patricky
“Pitbull” Freire. It was the first time since turning pro that one of
Chandler’s opponents made it to the final bell.

And while the Xtreme Couture product is disappointed that he was unable
to score a finish, the former University of Missouri All-American
wrestler believes the result may actually have been a blessing in
disguise.

The TapouT Chevrolet made its NASCAR debut, and driver Elliot Sadler
guided the No. 2 car to a 12th-place finish in its first-ever race.

The TapouT-sponsored race car was officially unveiled at Saturday’s
Sam’s Town 300 Nationwide Series Race, which took place at Las Vegas
Motor Speedway and was broadcast on ABC.

In February, MMA clothing manufacturer TapouT announced it was branching
out from its core audience with a multi-year partnership with racing
team Kevin Harvick Inc.
