RIO DE JANEIRO – Careful world. It turns out the UFC heavyweight champion has a few dance moves.

UFC titleholder Junior Dos Santos on Thursday led a group of UFC
personalities to Rio de Janeiro’s Mangueira Samba School, where the
champ, along with UFC octagon girls Arianny Celeste and Chandella
Powell, took part in the time-honored tradition of Carnival preparation.

“The people have shown me so much appreciation,” Dos Santos told
MMAjunkie.com. “Mangueira is a very humble
neighborhood, and it’s a pleasure to be here and spending some time with
the people.”

There’s a reason Kurt Pellegrino reversed his decision to retire and signed with Bellator.

Well, there’s several reasons, really. But it’s all rooted in a deep love of suffering, or just not knowing anything different.

For Pellegrino, his time on the mats shaped who he was – a stubborn, bullheaded competitor who can’t quit.

Ben Askren’s ground game upset a local Kansas City anchorman. | Photo: Keith Mills

Bellator welterweight champion Ben Askren (www.twitter.com/BenAskren) will blog his thoughts and experiences for Sherdog.com as he prepares to defend his 170-pound title against Season 4 tournament winner Jay Hieron at Bellator 56 in Kansas City, Kan. Bellator 56 takes place this Saturday, Oct. 29, on MTV2 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Well, the last 24 hours have been significantly more interesting than my last blog so at least I can entertain you guys.

Thursday, I had to do a bunch of media stuff; no one really likes to do it but it is a part of the job, and I did it with a smile on my face. My weight was great — only 179 when I started my weight cut. For the first workout, I grappled with one of my corners and friends Alan Belcher for
25 minutes and got a good sweat going. Then I threw on the plastics and sweats and hit some mitts for about 20 minutes. Even with all the extra clothes on I still felt strangely crisp with my combinations. I ended up losing four-and-a-half pounds and rewarded myself with a small dinner.

I hit the road to Kansas City today. My in-laws actually live there, so I decided to arrive a few days early to get the drive out of the way. After the fight, I am going to stop by Columbia, Mo., and check out my old stomping grounds and maybe stop by a few wrestling practices as the Mizzou team gets ready for the upcoming season.

This will be my first fight since I moved back to Milwaukee on Aug. 1, coming home after nine years was a great feeling. I actually just bought a house here, so I feel like this is really my home. Going to a great MMA gym with great coaches and training partners every day is a great feeling. Thinking back on it, my decision to move back home and pursue MMA full-time was a decision that I feel I should have made earlier in my career.

“The Ultimate Fighter” Season 14 bantamweight John Dodson (www.twitter.com/JohnDodsonMMA) will blog for Sherdog.com all season long, giving his thoughts, reactions and behind-the-scenes insights on TUF 14. “The Ultimate Fighter” airs Wednesday on Spike, 9 p.m. ET/PT.

My boy Diego lost it pretty good this week. He got mad at Siler not because he was pissed off at him, but just because another week has gone by and he still hasn’t fought yet. Diego is hating the house is ready to fight, just because he wants to let out some frustration. Siler wanted to fight Diego right away, but Mayhem had a different plan in mind from the start.

Mayhem found out that I was the one that was giving up the fight picks to Team Bisping, so to change it up on me he wanted to let Dustin Neace fight Akira this time around. I knew I was going to get caught sooner or later but I was hoping that it would be later, not sooner.

The night before the fight announcement, things got a little crazy. A whole night of pranks went off and I could’ve been the peacemaker — the one that stopped this all from happening. However, they are all full grown men and they were going to do whatever they wanted to. I’m not here to be a babysitter, after all. I knew this night would be crazy as hell.

Dustin Neace swaggerjacked Josh Ferguson by getting himself a cowboy hat, telling everyone that he had always wanted one. It was one thing that he was wearing it around the house, but he didn’t have to write a giant B on the hat just like Josh has on his. Josh was fed up with it, and the night before fight picks, Josh got Neace’s new hat and took a dump in it. He left it outside for him to find, trying to make sure that his message was sent and received, loud and clear.

Phil Baroni‘s It’s weigh-ins and final prep for Phil Baroni in Singapore. | Photo: James Meinhardt

Popular welterweight puncher Phil Baroni (www.twitter.com/PhilBaroni) will blog his experiences leading up to his One FC fight with Yoshiyuki Yoshida for Sherdog.com readers. One FC “Champion vs. Champion” streams live on Sherdog.com on Sept. 3, live from Kallang, Singapore.

I’m sitting in my hotel room at the Holiday Inn on Orchard Road here in Singapore, the local entertainment capital. I was surprised to find out that the Holiday Inn here is a four-star hotel. My 10 cups of coffee at the bar prove it.

I cut 12 pounds this morning with the help of my teammate Josh Thomson and “Big” Grant Sandow. The cut was pretty easy, and I feel great. People always say this, but everything really is going as planned, and I feel like I’m ready to go.

Singapore really is a great place to be. I had a great host in Mei Ling who took care of me, as well as the Gracies and made sure we enjoyed the place. The city’s great, and the weather is beautiful. It would be great to be able to visit here without having to cut weight and prepare to smash Yoshida.

It’s harder for me to write these as we get closer to the fight. I don’t really have much to say when it’s clobbering time. I just keep thinking about how it’s time to f— this dude up in just over 24 hours. After that, I get to have a few cold beers with the fellas. I can’t wait.
