The UFC’s decision to scrap Carlos Condit’s promised title shot to capitalize on the buzz of Georges St-Pierre vs. Nick Diaz obviously struck a nerve with fans.
To some, it was genius. To others, it was a testament to all that is wrong with the sport.

That’s when the UFC’s new network-television partner airs “UFC
Primetime,” a one-hour special that previews the organization’s first
UFC on FOX event, which is set for Nov. 12.
The special airs either immediately before or after the NFL on FOX game assigned to your given market that day.

Consider it the calm before the storm.
With an upcoming onslaught of events from the UFC, Strikeforce and
Bellator Fighting Championships on the horizon, this past week was
relatively quiet on the news front, and our submissions to this week’s
edition of “The Sunday Junkie” looked at a number of items from the past
several weeks.
But this week’s winner of our weekly reader-feedback feature, Northern
Ireland’s Michael Audley, was inspired by Saturday night’s Bellator 55
event and says that fight promotion has an immediate need for change.

surrounding festivities are still weighing heavy on the minds of MMA

Noted MMA trainer Shawn Tompkins, who earlier this year passed away at
just 37 years old, will be remembered at an Oct. 28 celebration in Las
Vegas.
Longtime Team Tompkins fighters Sam Stout and Mark Hominick will be on hand, as will Tompkins’ former mentor, Bas Rutten.
“Shawn loved life, and this evening is an opportunity for the MMA
community to share those good memories and to keep his spirit alive,”
Stout, who is also Tompkins’ brother-in-law, stated in an official
release.

Weigh-ins for this month’s “UFC 137: St-Pierre vs. Condit” event take
place Friday, Oct. 28, at Las Vegas’ Mandalay Bay Events Center.
The same venue hosts the following night’s pay-per-view event, which
features a welterweight title fight between current champion Georges
St-Pierre and former WEC champ Carlos Condit.
Additionally, former heavyweight champion Frank Mir hosts a special
Q&A session for UFC Fight Club members prior to the weigh-ins.
