RIO DE JANEIRO – With his 14th-straight victory in the featherweight
division, UFC champ Jose Aldo is beginning to run
out of possible opponents at 145 pounds.
Sure, there’s a few names making their way up the ranks right now, but
is it time for Aldo to make the move up to lightweight in search of
greater challenges?
UFC president Dana White said he’s just fine with Aldo staying put at
featherweight, but he certainly won’t stand in the way if the champ
decides to move up in weight.

This past Saturday at an MMA event in Joliet, Ill., 20-year-old amateur fighter Jeff Dunbar was stuck in a bad way.
In the ninth of 11 scheduled fights at a Dec. 17 Fight Card
Entertainment event, fellow fighter Rudy Bahena clung to Dunbar’s back,
torqued a standing rear-naked choke, and had his opponent desperate
enough to try the unthinkable.
Believing to be out of better options, Dunbar dove forward, hoping he
could spike Bahena into the canvas. It was an ill-fated decision – one
that’s now cost Dunbar the use of his limbs and forever changed his
life.

With consecutive wins over Fedor Emelianenko, Mike Kyle and Andrei
Arlovski, former EliteXC champ Antonio Silva looked
well on his way to establishing himself as one of MMA’s top
heavyweights.
Then he ran into Daniel Cormier, who booted Silva out of Strikeforce’s
heavyweight grand prix with a surprising first-round knockout.
As it turns out, the loss provided Silva with a valuable lesson he
promises to carry with him for the remainder of his career – a career
that looks as if may now play out in the UFC.

opponents at 145 pounds, but the line of volunteers doesn’t exactly
reach around the block.
Sixteen-second victories, like the one Santos notched over Hiroko
Yamanaka at Saturday’s “Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Masvidal” event in San Diego, tend
to have that effect.

John Alessio, who tonight meets late-notice replacement Luiz Firmino in the headliner of Superior Cage Combat 3 in Las Vegas, said he had an easy time moving from welterweight to lightweight with the help of Mike Dolce.
Dolce was there for Alessio every step of the way, emailing meal suggestions and encouragement as the weight began to come off.
Even after cutting the last four pounds, Alessio today told MMAjunkie.com Radio that he felt “pretty damn good.”
