RIO DE JANEIRO – Mike Pyle’s experience and accuracy proved to be too much for fellow welterweight Ricardo Funch.
Although Funch brought a considerably sharper-looking standup game to the fight, Pyle’s punches and knees brought a stop to the fight at the 1:22 mark of the first round.
The preliminary-card bout was part of UFC 142 and aired on FX prior to the pay-per-view main card. It took place at HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro.

Mike Brown’s recent withdrawal from next month’s UFC on FX 1 event was due to a recent knee surgery.
UFC officials announced on Thursday that Brown, a former WEC featherweight champion, scratched from his bout with Vagner Rocha due to an injury.
Brown today clarified the nature of it and said he expects a quick return to training.

Officials today announced that former WEC champ Mike Brown has been scratched from his UFC on FX 1 bout with featherweight Vagner Rocha.
Additionally, featherweight Ricardo Lamas has been forced out of a UFC 143 matchup with Dustin Poirer.
Replacements haven’t been named.

A welterweight fight between Justin Edwards and Mike Stumpf has been added to February’s UFC 143 lineup.
UFC officials today announced that verbal agreements are in place for the bout.
UFC 143, which is headlined by an interim welterweight title fight between Nick Diaz and Carlos Condit, takes place on the eve of the NFL’s Super Bowl, Feb. 4, at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

Welterweight Ricardo Funch is returning to the UFC as an injury replacement at next month’s UFC 142 event in Brazil.
Funch has replaced injured Paulo Thiago and now meets Mike Pyle, UFC officials today announced.
Featuring a featherweight title fight between current champion Jose Aldo and undefeated contender Chad Mendes, UFC 142 takes place Jan. 14 at Rio de Janeiro’s HSBC Arena.
