A knee injury has forced Rick Hawn out of Bellator 49 and his opening-round welterweight-tournament bout with Ben Saunders.
Hawn announced the news via Twitter.
Bellator officials haven’t confirmed the injury or a possible replacement for the eight-man tournament, which kicks off Sept. 10 at Caesars Atlantic City in New Jersey.

LAS VEGAS – Fourteen months after their feud began, the trilogy between
Strikeforce welterweight prospects Bobby Voelker and Roger Bowling is
over.
Despite struggling early against an on-point Bowling, Voelker used one
crisp knee and a flurry of punches to down Bowling for the
second-straight time.
The bout served as the featured contest for Saturday night’s
“Strikeforce Challengers 17: Voelker vs. Bowling III” event, which took
place at The Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.

At first glance, you see no weakness in the UFC’s Krzysztof Soszynski. With an imposing figure of chiseled muscle, he
looks like a guy who could snap you in two if duly provoked. And he
could, technically.
But looks can be deceiving. Soszynski is one of the nicer guys you could
run across in the fight business – a guy who’s truly grateful for the
opportunities he’s had and the attention bestowed upon him.
But supporting that hulking light-heavyweight frame are the knees of a
60-year-old, according to a doctor who recently performed the seventh
corrective surgery on them. Still, Soszynski looks to return to action by year’s end, and he’s staying busy in the meantime by immersing himself in the film industry.

A doctor’s visit and an MRI sealed the deal for Phil Davis: He wouldn’t fight at UFC 133.
He had hurt his knee in training for a headlining bout against Rashad Evans at the Aug. 6 pay-per-view event, and while it wasn’t something as serious as a torn ACL, it was serious enough to keep him from working his standup game for two weeks of camp.
Nevertheless, Davis wanted to show. But UFC president Dana White nixed that idea, and for good reason.
