Shark Fights returns March 11 with Horwich vs. Villefort, broadcast deal likely

The popular Texas-based Shark Fights promotion returns March 11 with its first event of 2011.

The organization today announced that Shark Fights 14 features a headliner between UFC vets Matt Horwich and Danillo Villefort.

The event takes place at Fair Park City Coliseum in Lubbock, Texas. The show could air on TV as part of a “nationally televised deal,” according to Shark Fights Promotions president Brent Medley.

Weekend winners include Horwich, Taylor, May, Lima, Ford and others

Matt Horwich snapped out of a 1-3 skid and scored a solid TKO victory over fellow UFC vet Jake Rosholt in the main event of Friday’s Xtreme Fight Night in Oklahoma.

Horwich fought the three-time NCAA Division I national wrestling champion on that mat and ultimately forced a third-round stoppage due to strikes.

Other weekend winners from regional action included Jesse Taylor, Jeremy May, Douglas Lima, Ryan Ford, Nick Gaston and others. The weekend also saw the potential MMA retirement of UFC vet Jonathan Goulet.

One day after holding a thrilling featherweight title fight in San
Antonio, Texas, Bellator Fighting Championships officials are now
turning their attention to “The Big Easy.”

Bellator today announced the four main-card fights for next week’s
Bellator 28 event, which takes place Sept. 9 at the Mahalia Jackson
Theater for the Performing Arts in New Orleans.

The contests include Rich Clementi vs. Carey Vanier and Georgi
Karakhanyan vs. Anthony Leone, a pair of “tournament qualifier” which
were previously reported by MMAjunkie.com, as well
as two new bouts in Matt Horwich vs. Eric Schambari and Marcus Andrusia
vs. Eric Larkin.

Matt Horwich vs. Thales Leites title fight set for Aug. 14 “War on the Mainland”

UFC veteran and former IFL champion Matt Horwich has replaced Falaniko Vitale and meets Thales Leites at Powerhouse World Promotions’ “War on the Mainland” pay-per-view event.

The Aug. 14 fight determines the first-ever PWP middleweight champ.
