RIO DE JANEIRO – Understandably, Chad Mendes was irritated by the suggestion that he isn’t ready to fight UFC featherweight champ Jose Aldo.
But the owner of that suggestion, Gray Maynard, said he isn’t out to get the featherweight challenger.
“It’s not like I’m flying over here because I want Chad to lose and there’s a grudge and I want him to lose,” he told MMAjunkie.com. “Not at all.”

UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo is looking to bring one of the top lightweights in the world in to help him prepare for his next title defense against Chad Mendes.<Br><Br>
Aldo spoke with <a href=http://www.sherdog.com/news/news/Maynard-to-Help-Aldo-With-Preparation-for-Mendes-37463>Sherdog.com</a> and informed them of his plan to hopefully bring former number one contender to the UFC Lightweight title Gray Maynard in to help him prepare for Mendes' wrestling:<Br><Br>
"We have a big interest in bringing Maynard to train with me. He has such strong wrestling and we want people that (have) the same game Chad Mendes does. Mendes is a competitive and hard guy to fight. Me and Maynard have been in touch since UFC 136, and he also said it's his will to train with us at Nova Uniao, but nothing is confirmed thus far, especially because of the Thanksgiving holiday. I'm waiting for the answer."<Br><Br>

October for his return date after being cleared by his doctor for
training, and Edgar and his team expected to return that month, as well.

All this waiting has gotten to Gray Maynard. Somewhere along the line, his quest to become lightweight champion has become very personal.
“This is one that he’s worked so many years for, and somebody’s dangling it in front of him, and every time he gets close, they just keep pulling it away,” Maynard’s boxing coach, Gil Martinez, told MMAjunkie.com Radio.
Martinez discusses the injuries that scrapped Edgar vs. Maynard III, why Maynard would have fought through his ailments anyway, and why a fight with Anthony Pettis ultimately didn’t make sense for the fighter.
