A good night’s sleep has dulled anger within the Diaz camp.

Diaz manager Cesar Gracie doesn’t know whether the
fighter’s retirement will stick following a decision loss to Carlos
Condit, but he anticipates it won’t.

“I think Nick will miss fighting when he’s not doing it for long enough,
so I do see him coming back at some point,” Gracie today told
MMAjunkie.com. “Not now, but maybe end of the year,
2013, something like that.”

UFC lightweight Jacob Volkmann said he followed the rules – to the letter – when he said President Barack Obama needed a “glassectomy,” even after being placed on paid administrative leave a second time by the high school that employs him as a part-time wrestling coach.

Now, the rules are a little bit stricter.

Volkmann was taken off administrative leave from White Bear Lake High School today after a meeting with school administrators.

In the past year, the UFC has tackled out-of-competition injuries with
accident-insurance. The promotion has encouraged its fighters to
participate in a long-term study on brain trauma. And just this month,
it attempted to address performance-enhancing drugs with a pre-screen
for its athletes.

But more should be done in-house, according to MMAjunkie.com medical consultant, Dr. Johnny Benjamin.

“They’re right up there with all these first-tier sports,” Benjamin today told MMAjunkie.com Radio. “But you know what? You need to start handling your fighter
safety issues just like the first-tier sports.”

As with with past WEC and Strikeforce events, official fighter weigh-ins for March’s “Strikeforce: Tate vs. Rousey” event will coincide with the Arnold Sports Festival in Ohio.

The weigh-ins take place March 2 at Hall C in the Greater Columbus Convention Center beginning at 5 p.m. ET (2 p.m. PT).

The following day’s Showtime- and Showtime Extreme-televised event takes place at nearby Nationwide Arena.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – By the time Pat Barry got to the locker room, he was over getting knocked out cold by Cheick Kongo. Same when he tapped to Stefan Struve’s triangle choke.

“I ask all the people that was wondering why I wasn’t still upset about those losses, I ask them, ‘How come you’re not still pissed off about failing a math test in sixth grade?’” Barry told MMAjunkie.com.
