Fedor Emelianenko’s next fight could be in a very sunny place.
M-1 Global Director of Operations Evgeni Kogan today told MMAjunkie.com
(www.mmajunkie.com) that Monaco – a city-state surrounded by France and
Italy – is targeted to host the Russian heavyweight’s next fight, likely
in July.
Although Bobby Lashley has been discussed as a possible opponent,
the promotion is leaning toward “a European fighter” to meet Emelianenko.

LAS VEGAS – Soon, the Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix will come to a conclusion, and the entire division then will be sent to the UFC.
But first, the tournament champion – either Josh Barnett or Daniel Cormier – will get one more Strikeforce fight against an opponent to be determined.
While Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker said some of those options were eliminated when the UFC gobbled up a handful of Strikeforce fighters for upcoming cards, one famous Russian remains a possibility.

Fedor Emelianenko is returning to Japan.
A long-rumored bout between the former PRIDE heavyweight champion and Olympic gold medalist Satoshi Ishii is expected to headline a New Year’s Eve event in Japan featuring two DREAM title bouts and the completion of the DREAM bantamweight tournament.
Officials today announced the fight.

Returning home to his native Russia and facing veteran globetrotter Jeff Monson in the headliner of Sunday’s “M-1 Global: Fedor vs. Monson” event, Emelianenko cruised.
Emelianenko won the pay-per-view fight via clear-cut unanimous decision.

Monson is a 14-year veteran of the sport with 55 fights under his belt, extensive submission-grappling experience and pro-boxing fights. He’s seen plenty of people rise and fall.
Heck, he’s constantly battling for respect himself five years after he unsuccessfully tried to take the UFC heavyweight belt from Tim Sylvia.
