LAS VEGAS – While 2011 saw Jon Jones put together perhaps the best
12-month span in MMA history, UFC lightweight contender Donald Cerrone has enjoyed a pretty impressive calendar year, as
well.
Cerrone made his UFC debut in February and has since picked up
four-straight wins, not to mention three “Fight Night” bonus along the
way.
But as Cerrone prepares to face Nate Diaz in a highly anticipated UFC
141 matchup, he’s not at all concerned with rest. Instead, Cerrone wants
to get a quick start on another banner year.

As expected, Fabricio Werdum is leaving Strikeforce and returning to the UFC for an upcoming fight with fellow heavyweight Roy Nelson.
MMAjunkie.com passed along news of the bout this past week, and the fighters recently tweeted confirmation of the matchup.
UFC 143 takes place on the eve of the NFL’s Super Bowl, Feb. 4, at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

A heavyweight bout between Roy Nelson and the returning Fabricio Werdum has been slotted for February’s UFC 143 event.
Werdum will jump from Strikeforce to the UFC, where he fought from 2007 to 2008, as part of the long-rumored move.

UFC 143 takes place Feb. 4 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las

With Patricio “Pitbull” Freire recovering from a second hand surgery, fellow tournament winner Pat Curran will get the next shot at Bellator featherweight champion Joe Warren.
Bellator CEO and chairman Bjorn Rebney today confirmed the plans with MMAjunkie.com.
According to Rebney, Curran has leapfrogged Freire in the division’s pecking order. His title fight with Warren in now targeted for a currently unannounced February event – one that could also feature Bellator champ Eddie Alvarez vs. DREAM champ Shinya Aoki.

Nate Marquardt’s BAMMA debut will wait for now.
Once targeted to meet Paul Daley at the upcoming BAMMA 8 event, Marquardt, a onetime UFC middleweight title challenger, will now headline BAMMA 9 opposite UFC vet Yoshiyuki Yoshida.
Promotion officials today announced that BAMMA 9 is set for Feb. 11 at LG Arena in Birmingham, England, which is the site of this weekend’s UFC 138 event.

UFC welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre wants to recover the right way
following an injury that scrapped his planned title defense against
Carlos Condit.
St-Pierre on Wednesday told Sportsnet.ca
that he actually suffered two injuries – not one as originally reported
- and doesn’t anticipate returning before the end of January or early
February.
“The recovery, I want to do it well,” he said. “I don’t want to do it too fast.”
