CHICAGO – It’s official: Evan Dunham has put himself back into the fray of UFC lightweight title contention.
Dunham primarily used his standup to secure a second-round TKO (via doctor’s stoppage) over a game Nik Lentz, who was stopped for the first time in his UFC career.
The bout served as the featured preliminary-card contest and aired on FUEL TV as part of the UFC on FOX 2 preliminary card.

Six years ago, avid rock-climber and ultra-successful businessman Ruy
Drever hadn’t so much as set foot inside an MMA gym, much less
considered training in one.
Now, as the CEO and founder of Pretorian Hard Sports, the wildly
successful Brazilian MMA equipment brand, Drever’s professional life is
consumed by the sport.
However, it’s not all that matters to the Uruguayan-born,
Oxford-educated executive. A longtime Brazilian resident, Drever and his
company are also at the leading edge of positive social change in the
spiritual birthplace of mixed martial arts.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – When it comes to pre-fight mean-mugging, bantamweight
Mike Easton is among the pound-for-pound best in the sport.
And while “The Hulk” is comfortable chalking up his motivational rage to
a clear case of Napoleon complex, the 5-foot-6 scrapper doesn’t let it
control him at all times.
Take for instance, his rivalry with Jared Papazian, which resulted in what
what many think should have been UFC on FX 1′s “Fight of the Night.”
Now that it’s over, Easton said the respect can begin.

While Brazil has been awarded the first-ever international edition of “The Ultimate Fighter,” Australia may not be far behind.
At a Thursday press gathering Down Under, UFC managing director of
international development Marshall Zelaznik said the company is “close”
to securing a deal for “TUF: Australia vs. U.K.”
If signed, the series would likely film in Australia later this year,
and Brisbane’s Brisbane Entertainment Center has been earmarked to host
the finale.

RIO DE JANEIRO – When Brazilian special-forces officer Paulo Thiago was forced to withdraw from this weekend’s UFC 142 event, it only made sense that welterweight replacement Ricardo Funch stepped in to face Mike Pyle.
Sure, Funch isn’t quite as well-known as Thiago, but as a recently commissioned police officer in his current residence of Ludlow, Mass., he’s capable of carrying the shield.
“I was in the right place at the right time,” Funch recently told MMAjunkie.com.

LAS VEGAS – With the defection of former Strikeforce champs Alistair
Overeem, Nick Diaz and Dan Henderson, the UFC’s sister promotion finds
itself a little short in the titleholder department.
Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker today said he hopes to rectify that by mid-2012.
However, perhaps as part of the “business as usual” mantra of the
promotion, Coker declined to speculate on whether or not a few key names
could be expected to figure into the picture.

As MMA continues its popularity boom around the globe, the talent pool of Brazilian fighters is becoming more and more apparent.
Take for instance, the famed Nova Uniao team, home of UFC featherweight
champion Jose Aldo, as well as a host of notables that includes Eduardo
Dantas, Wagnney Fabiano, Marcos Galvao, Thales Leites, Diego Nunes,
Marlon Sandro and Ronys Torres, among countless others.
On New year’s Eve, Nova Unaio product Rodolfo Marques hopes to add his name to that list.

With consecutive wins over Fedor Emelianenko, Mike Kyle and Andrei
Arlovski, former EliteXC champ Antonio Silva looked
well on his way to establishing himself as one of MMA’s top
heavyweights.
Then he ran into Daniel Cormier, who booted Silva out of Strikeforce’s
heavyweight grand prix with a surprising first-round knockout.
As it turns out, the loss provided Silva with a valuable lesson he
promises to carry with him for the remainder of his career – a career
that looks as if may now play out in the UFC.

TORONTO – Former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz may finally be ready to call it quits.
On the eve of his UFC 140 matchup with fellow longtime vet Antonio
Rogerio Nogueira, Ortiz believes he’s finally -
thankfully – healthy, but that’s precisely the point.
With kids at home that need a father, Ortiz remembers what it was like
to have absentee parents. And with all that fighting has given to him
over the years, Ortiz refuses to let the sport take away future quality
time with his family.

If you’re an MMA fan that’s been enraged by a decision, chances are
you’ve used Twitter to commiserate and argue with fellow fans.
iJudgeFights.com, a website currently in development, hopes to give
would-be judges a place not only to vent, but to score fights and
measure them against those who do it for a living.
“I wouldn’t say people are outraged, but there are periods where people
are disappointed with the outcome of fights, and we feel that not only
are we going to be able to help, but create interaction that hasn’t
existed before,” iJudgeFights co-founder Jonathan Wakrat today told
MMAjunkie.com.
