On its face, Extreme Challenge sounds like one of the many regional
shows given a flashy adjective to suggest a connection to the UFC. Look into its history, though, and you’ll see a breeding ground for some
of the biggest names in MMA today.

On Wednesday, the Midwest promotion visits Harrah’s Casino in Council
Bluffs, Iowa, for its 200th show – 15 years to the day after the Quad
City Ultimate became Extreme Challenge and held a show 100 or so miles
away at the Supertoad Entertainment Center in Des Moines.

Monte Cox remembers that day and remembers thinking, “this is bull[expletive].”
