TORONTO – Opponents may think twice before they take a shot on Jake Hecht.
The UFC newcomer overcame a lopsided and losing first round to stop well-regarded welterweight Rick Attonito with an elbow attack in the second round of their fight.
The bout took place at UFC 140 at Toronto’s Air Canada Centre. It streamed on Facebook prior to additional prelims on ION Television and a main card on pay-per-view.

Ultimate Fighting Championship executives today said that Showtime will retain control over the broadcast and look of Strikeforce events.
But there is one big difference that fans immediately will notice when the recently purchased promotion next goes on air: the use of elbows on the ground.
UFC co-owner and executive Lorenzo Fertitta said the Strikeforce fighters now will compete under the Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts, which allow the strikes.

Strikeforce upset king Fabricio Werdum underwent successful arthroscopic surgery for his left elbow on Aug. 18 in Los Angeles, and is eyeing his return to the promotion in early 2011.

Brazilian heavyweight Fabricio Werdum, who in June
handed Fedor Emelianenko his first legitimate career loss, is on the
shelf until the first quarter of 2011.
Werdum’s management today announced that “Vai Cavalo” is scheduled for
elbow surgery on Aug. 18, and he’ll need six weeks of physical therapy
before he can return to training.
