LAS VEGAS – Alistair Overeem is next in line for a UFC heavyweight title shot, and he ended a career to get it.
In his official UFC debut, the recent Strikeforce titleholder earned a first-round TKO victory over Brock Lesnar, an ex-champ who announced his MMA retirement following the loss.
The fight headlined the pay-per-view main card of UFC 141 and followed
prelims on Facebook and Spike TV. It took place at MGM Grand Garden
Arena in Las Vegas.

One thing’s certain: Brock Lesnar and fellow headliner Alistair Overeem will be the top earners at tonight’s UFC 141 event.
Nevada State Athletic Commission executive director Keith Kizer today emailed the list of officially disclosed paydays to MMAjunkie.com.
Lesnar makes a flat $400,000 for the event. Overeem, meanwhile, earns a base pay of $264,285.71 and an additional $121,428.57 as a “win bonus” if victorious.

LOS ANGELES – Brock Lesnar has intimate knowledge of Cain Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos. Velasquez took his belt, and Dos Santos coached opposite him as a future opponent on “The Ultimate Fighter 13.”
While the one-hour broadcast of UFC on FOX won’t give out a teaser for next week’s UFC 139, the show will talk about an upcoming heavyweight title eliminator.
That’s where Lesnar comes in. The former heavyweight champ fights Alistair Overeem at UFC 140, and the winner gets a shot at the winner of the UFC on FOX main event. That’s where champ Velasquez makes his first title defense against Dos Santos.

Ever since his camp began for a UFC 141 bout with Alistair Overeem, ex-UFC champ Brock Lesnar has been dogged by rumors.
Countless sources have speculated to MMAjunkie.com that the once-ailing Lesnar isn’t able to train and that the December heavyweight blockbuster will be canceled.
UFC president Dana White has a simple answer to that: “bull [expletive].”
