SAN JOSE, Calif. – Urijah Faber is one big step closer to reclaiming a big-show championship.
The bantamweight fighter blasted and then choked out fellow ex-WEC champion Brian Bowles and immediately called out the reigning titleholder.
The fight aired on UFC 139′s pay-per-view main card from HP Pavilion in
San Jose, Calif., following prelims on Facebook and Spike TV.

SAN JOSE, Calif. – Former WEC champ Brian Bowles sounds like he’s headed to a high-school P.E. class rather than a professional, no-quarter-given cage fight.
“Some people are going to be popular, and some people aren’t,” Bowles said today in advance of his meeting with Urijah Faber at Saturday’s UFC 139 event, which takes place at HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif.
In four years under the big lights, Bowles has struggled to find an audience. Now, it sounds a little like he’s giving up looking.

get the UFC title shot he had hoped for, but he did get a fight that
will certainly leave him a No. 1 contender with a win.
UFC officials announced late Thursday night that Bowles will next face
former WEC featherweight champ Urijah Faber at UFC
139.
Although not officially announced, UFC 139 is expected to take place
Nov. 19 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif. The event is expected to
feature a heavyweight title fight between champ Cain Velasquez and top
contender Junior Dos Santos.

sketched out the possibilities at hand for bantamweight champion
Dominick Cruz’s next booking following UFC 132.
It could be against former WEC champ Brian Bowles,
as he said, or it could be against Demetrious Johnson, as UFC matchmaker Sean Shelby said.
Both options had recently been victorious. Bowles had bested Takeya
Mizugaki at UFC 132, and Johnson had beaten Miguel Torres at UFC 130.
But as Bowles recently told MMAjunkie.com Radio, he’s healthier and better suited for the job.
