SYDNEY – MMAjunkie.com was on scene and reporting
live from tonight’s official UFC on FX 2 fighter
weigh-ins, where headliners Thiago Alves and Martin Kampmann made their welterweight contest official.

Additionally, Joseph Benavidez, Yasuhiro Urushitani, Demetrious Johnson
and Ian McCall weighed in at the same mark of 125.5 pounds in advance of their flyweight tourney
opening-round matchups.

Today’s weigh-ins took place at Sydney’s Allphones Arena, which also hosts Saturday’s event.

Official fighter weigh-ins for next month’s “UFC on FX 2: Alves vs.
Kampmann” event take place Friday, March 2, at Allphones Arena in
Sydney’s Olympic Park.

The same venue hosts the following night’s FX-broadcast event, which
features a key welterweight matchup between Thiago Alves and Martin
Kampmann, as well as the opening round of the UFC’s four-man flyweight
tournament.

Doors open to the general public at 11:30 a.m. AEDT (7:30 p.m. ET
Thursday, March 1), and the first fighter is on the scale at 2 p.m.
AEDT.

Thiago Alves had his chance and blew it.

Regardless, there was no shame in losing a unanimous decision at UFC 100
to Georges St-Pierre in his only career title fight. If you’ve been in
the 170-pound fray for as long as “Pitbull” has, chances are you’ve lost
to the Canadian kingpin, too.

So with St-Pierre currently idle and interim champion Carlos Condit
patiently waiting, the rest are free to jockey for position and string
together title runs.

As expected, UFC on FX 2 will take place March 3 at Allphones Arena in Sydney, Australia.

MMAjunkie.com first reported the destination this past week, and UFC executives today made it official.

In addition to the opening round of the inaugural flyweight tournament, UFC on FX 2 features a previously rumored welterweight headliner between Thiago Alves and Martin Kampmann.
