LAS VEGAS – UFC president Dana White doesn’t anticipate having to find a new heavyweight contender a week after the current one was charged with misdemeanor battery.
White said today that it’s his understanding that the charge arose when Alistair Overeem was confronted outside the restroom of a popular Las Vegas club.
“I don’t think he’s in that much trouble,” White said. “This isn’t a situation where he beat somebody up; I don’t think that’s the case.”

Top UFC heavyweight contender Alistair Overeem won’t be commenting on a recent misdemeanor-battery charge that followed a recent UFC 141 win over Brock Lesnar.
An attorney for the fighter today issued a statement on his behalf.
In it, David Chesnoff of the Chesnoff & Schonfeld law firm said they’ll “vigorously” defend his side of the story and that he maintains his innocence.

Top UFC heavyweight contender Alistair Overeem has been charged with one count of misdemeanor battery following an incident in a Las Vegas casino soon after his UFC 141 bout this past month.
According to the “Las Vegas Review-Journal,” Overeem is slated to appear in court on Feb. 21, and if convicted, he faces a maximum of six months in county jail and a maximum $1,000 fine.

The UFC’s first heavyweight title fight of 2012 is likely to take place mid-year.
While on Tuesday’s debut episode of “UFC Today” on FUEL TV, UFC president Dana White said he’s tentatively scheduling a bout between heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos and recent UFC 141 winner Alistair Overeem for the summer.
However, no specific date has been determined.

Alistair Overeem was paid in full for UFC 141.
Nevada State Athletic Commission executive director Keith Kizer today
told MMAjunkie.com that he did not withhold any
portion of the heavyweight’s purse, as ordered by a Nevada judge.
A UFC official confirmed that a $200,000 bond required to execute the order was not deposited prior to the event.
