LAS VEGAS – On Friday at UFC 141, fast-rising Swedish light heavyweight Alexander Gustafsson defeated an opponent 16 years older with 18 more pro fights and a decade more experience.
Gustafsson now has won four straight fights, and his lone blemish came to top contender Phil Davis.
But before we all get ahead of ourselves, tap the breaks on the title talk, Gustafsson said.

LAS VEGAS – No one wants to be a stepping stone, but veteran fighter Vladimir Matyushenko likely will be remembered as the the opponent who thrust Alexander Gustafsson into serious title consideration.
The fast-rising Swedish light heavyweight needed a little more than two minutes to scored a TKO victory over 41-year-old Matyushenko, a fighter 16 years his elder.
The fight was part of the pay-per-view main card of UFC 141 and followed
prelims on Facebook and Spike TV.

Welterweight Douglas Lima and middleweight Alexander Shlemenko both have staked claim to Bellator tournament titles.
At Saturday’s Bellator 57 event, both fighters won their respective season-five eight-man tournaments, and both have now earned guaranteed title shots with their division’s champions.
Bellator 57 took place Saturday at Casino Rama in Rama, Ontario, Canada, and the main card aired on MTV2 and EPIX prior to the Spike.com prelims.

Vitor Vianna is the 50th opponent of Alexander Shlemenko’s professional career, and he feels like he can fight another 100.
But the Russian said he’s still improving, and nothing brought that into focus better than a loss to current Bellator middleweight champ Hector Lombard.
“Hector showed me weaknesses that I had, and all this time, I worked really hard to improve myself,” Shlemenko recently told MMAjunkie.com Radio.

They’ll just do it a week earlier than expected.

Bellator officials announced that Bellator 54 semifinal bout winners
Alexander Shlemenko and Vitor Vianna will meet at the Nov. 19 event.
Already featuring a lightweight title fight between Eddie Alvarez and
Michael Chandler, as well as a non-title fight with champ Hector Lombard
and Trevor Prangley, Bellator 58 takes place at the Seminole Hard Rock
Hotel & Casino.

A light heavyweight matchup originally expected to take place at this
past August’s UFC 133 event will now take place at UFC 141, as Alexander
Gustafsson meets Vladimir Matyushenko.
UFC officials on Wednesday evening announced the matchup.
Featuring a heavyweight headliner between former UFC champion Brock
Lesnar and former Strikeforce titleholder Alistair Overeem, UFC 141
takes place Dec. 30 at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena.
