Each year MMA pundits and media sources reflect on the previous 12
months of in-cage action and announce the fighter they consider to have
accomplished the most.
MMAjunkie.com decided to instead poll our readers to vote on the fighter
they believe deserves the title of 2011 Fighter of the Year.
Tens of thousands of votes were cast, and as was perhaps was to be
expected, one fighter rose head, shoulders and “Bones” above the

Fedor Emelianenko picked up his second consecutive victory in a long-awaited return to Japan.
The former PRIDE champion and Strikeforce heavyweight plastered former Olympic judoka Satoshii Ishii with stiff punches to earn a first-round knockout win.
Emelianenko vs. Ishii headlined “DREAM: New Year! 2011″ (also dubbed “Genki Desu Ka!!”), which took place early Saturday at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. The entire nine-hour event, which ushered in the new year in Japan, aired live on HDNet.

The headliners and title-fight participants competing at Saturday’s “DREAM: New Year! 2011″ event successfully have made weight for the show.
Weigh-ins for the event, officially dubbed “Genki Desu Ka!!,” took place today in Tokyo.
Saturday’s event, which airs live on HDNet in the early-morning hours (1 a.m. ET/10 p.m. PT), takes place at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.

The bout order has been set for Saturday’s big “DREAM: New Year! 2011″ event.
The show, officially dubbed “”Genki Desu Ka!!” and held in conjunction
with IGF, features an array of combat-sports offerings, including two
MMA title fights, an MMA-tournament conclusion, four pro-wrestling
bouts, two kickboxing matches, and a mixed-rules bout.
A heavyweight MMA clash between Fedor Emelianenko and Satoshi Ishii headlines the show.

LAS VEGAS – While 2011 saw Jon Jones put together perhaps the best
12-month span in MMA history, UFC lightweight contender Donald Cerrone has enjoyed a pretty impressive calendar year, as
well.
Cerrone made his UFC debut in February and has since picked up
four-straight wins, not to mention three “Fight Night” bonus along the
way.
But as Cerrone prepares to face Nate Diaz in a highly anticipated UFC
141 matchup, he’s not at all concerned with rest. Instead, Cerrone wants
to get a quick start on another banner year.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia will face Jerome Le Banner in Japan.
DREAM officials recently announced the matchup for the year-ending
“DREAM: New Year! 2011″ event, but there’s a catch: Sylvia and Le Banner
won’t meet in an MMA contest but rather a professional wrestling bout.
Headlined by a heavyweight matchup between Fedor Emelianenko and Satoshi
